Marj Dusay of Guiding Light fame dies at 83
Marj Dusay, best known for her work on Guiding Light as well as playing George C. Scott’s wife in the 1977 movie MacArthur, has died. She was 83.
The actress, born Majorie Ellen Pivonka Mahoney, played Alexandra Spaulding on the CBS sudser on and off from 1993 to 2009. She also appeared as Vanessa Bennett Hayward Cortlandt on All My Children and a temporary replacement as Vivian Alamain on Days of Our Lives in 1993.
Born in Kansas, Dusay started out in Hollywood in small roles on Clambake starring Elvis Presley and the original Star Trek. She found regular gigs on small screen classics like The Wild Wild West, Bonanza, Hawaii Five-0, Medical Center and Hogan’s Heroes, the latter of which employed her as the Countess Marlene and Baroness von Krimm. She also kept busy on shows like Barnaby Jones, Cannon, Love, American Style, Alias Smith and Jones, and The Odd Couple.
Her steady TV work extended into the ’80s, when she played Monica Warner on The Facts of Life for several seasons. She joined the soap opera Santa Barbara in 1987 to play Pamela Capwell Conrad before jumping to Guiding Light in 1987, which earned her an Emmy nomination.
The twice-married actress is survived by two children.
