For as long as Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni's characters have been living in the Law and Order universe, dedicated fans have been desperate to see Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler finally get together. But how has Mariska's husband Peter Hermann taken to seeing his wife have undeniable chemistry with her co-star of almost 25 years?

During a May 2021 appearance on E!'s Daily Pop, the Younger actor was asked about what it was like being a longtime "throuple" with Mariska and the Law and Order: Organized Crime star. (To be clear, Mariska, Peter and Chris aren't actually in a three-way union!) After stumbling about trying to come up with an answer, he eventually shared his thoughts in a lighthearted manner.

"We make it work," he jokingly told host Justin Sylvester about splitting his wife's time with her on-screen companion. "Sometimes Chris and I have some things to negotiate. But we've gotten really good at communicating with each other, and there's a lot of give and take. Kind of in the end, all three of us, we're really happy."

In November 2001, Mariska and Peter met on the set of Law and Order: SVU when he appeared as a guest star. The two were later married in August 2004, and Mariska has since said she knew he was her husband the moment they crossed paths.

By this point in her career, fans had become accustomed to witnessing Mariska and Chris' fictional romantic tension. The two began working on the NBC drama in 1999. But as it turns out, the co-stars' relationship is completely platonic.

As Peter's Daily Pop interview went on, it was clear he wasn't done discussing his feelings toward Chris and Mariska's friendship. When a photo of the duo came up, he clarified how he is oftentimes the one documenting them on set.

"I think there is much to be said about marriage ... and there he is," he said about the snap above. "I took that picture on a day that we were all on."

At least we know where Peter stands on this relationship. As far as Mariska and Chris' take on this, they're well aware of how special their bond is.

"It's effortless, and it's weird, and I always look at it as some sort of gift," Mariska said on the red carpet of the 2022 Emmys. "So much of it has to do with our shared sense of humor, shared perspective, our now history."
