Marisa Tomei will join Jason M0moa in Netflix’s upcoming action revenge flick “Sweet Girl.”
The film, to be directed by cinematographer Brian Andrew Mendoza, follows a devastated husband (Momoa) who vows to bring justice on the people responsible for the death of his wife, while protecting the only family he has left, his daughter (Isabela Merced).
“Sweet Girl” marks Mendoza’s feature film directing debut. He previously worked with Momoa on last year’s “Braven” from Saban Films, which he also produced.
Along with Momoa, Academy Award-winner Tomei joins a cast featuring Isabela Merced (“Dora and the Lost City of Gold”), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“6 Underground”), Raza Jaffrey (“Homeland”), Adria Arjona (“6 Underground”), Justin Bartha (“The Hangover”), Lex Scott Davis (“The First Purge”), Michael Raymond-James (“Billions”), Dominic Fumusa (“The Report”), Brian Howe (“Annabelle”), Nelson Franklin (“Veep”) and Reggie Lee (“The Dark Knight Rises”).
Tomei recently completed an acclaimed run on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s “The Rose Tattoo,” and she wrapped production on an untitled comedy from Judd Apatow that will star Pete Davidson and is expected to hit theaters in 2020. Tomei also recently returned for ABC’s live special of Norman Lear’s “Live In Front of a Studio Audience,” and earlier this year reprised her role of Aunt May in this year’s hit “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
The script for “Sweet Girl” was written by Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner, with revisions done by Will Staples
Producers on the film are Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson of ASAP Entertainment, and Momoa, Mendoza and Martin Kistler for On The Roam. Mark Kamine will executive produce.
Peyton and Fierson have a successful track record with Momoa previously producing the TV series “Frontier” for Netflix which Momoa also starred in as well as executive produced
“Sweet Girl” will mark the third feature project in an ongoing partnership between Netflix and ASAP Entertainment. Additional series projects have included “Frontier” and “DayBreak” with future film projects also in discussion.
