Mariah Carey Wears a Very Mariah Outfit to Meet the Head of the United Nations

Mariah Carey cooks pizza in a negligee and swims in an evening gown and heels, so are we that surprised that she wore basically a bra to meet the head of the United Nations?

The “We Belong Together” singer, 46, disembarked her luxury yacht to attend a party hosted by fiancé James Packer’s movie financing company, RatPac Entertainment, in L.A. on Wednesday in honor of U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. For the occasion, the mom-of-two wore a tight leather jacket and matching pants but left the top unzipped to display her black, sparkly bra.

The 72-year-old diplomat didn’t seem offended by the Mariah’s World star’s display. However, when Courtney Love shows up at the party in a way more conservative outfit than you, it may be time to reevaluate your wardrobe choices.

Listen, Mariah is Mariah. We appreciate Mimi on so many levels. We love that she wakes up and slips into 6-inch stilettos before she even thinks coffee. We are wildly envious of her amazing closet — and the fact that she has an assistant put her shoes on her. We appreciate that her future husband’s 287-foot luxury liner isn’t good enough for her, so she chartered her own. We give her a virtual high-five over the fact that when she stumbles just slightly on the red carpet, no fewer than four men run to her rescue. And we think it’s fabulous that she says dahhling all the time. But this is all a bit much.

A bit much, but not exactly uncharted territory. Here is the mesh dress she wore to the bat mitzvah of her friend’s 13-year-old daughter in May.

Let’s not forget the time she showed her animal instincts — and some cleavage — at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Gauteng Province, South Africa, in 2007.

She didn’t exactly get dressed up when she showed up (in a tube top?) to join then-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani to publicize an adoption fair sponsored by the city’s Administration for Children’s Services in 1998.

Then there was the time she showed serious skin while draping herself on Prince Albert at a charity event in 2005. Again, not that he seemed to mind.

Nobody’s going to stop Mariah from being Mariah. That said, we can’t wait to see what she wears to parent-teacher conferences as Monroe and Moroccan, 5, start grade school. Eep!
