Mariah Carey Tapped As Next Guest For Audible’s ‘Words + Music’

Mariah Carey and Audible are teaming up for a masterclass in storytelling. The incomparable vocalist has been selected as the next guest for the 40th installment of its Words + Music series with Carey’s episode, “Portrait Of A Portrait,” debuting on May 23.
“’Portrait of a Portrait’ is an in-depth journey into my inner life as a songwriter,” said the mother of two in a statement. “I’m excited to welcome listeners into the Butterfly Lounge for a unique, unfiltered exploration of my creative process and the meaning behind some of the songs closest to my heart.”
Listeners will receive rare insight into Carey’s creative process as she intimately breaks down, “Portrait,” a chilling ballad from her 2018 critically-acclaimed album, Caution. The episode will also feature an exclusive house remix of the record.
Carey joins the likes of past Words + Music guests such as yasiin bey, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, Snoop Dogg, and George Clinton. The latter released his episode earlier this year and opened up about his funk origin story.
Clinton detailed his deep love for Motown, but was ultimately rejected from joining the family for not fitting the “criteria.”
“We wasn’t six feet [tall]. That was the criteria. The Temptations was all six feet. They was wanting to judge everybody by The Temptations’ standard at that time because they were so cool. We looked like a ladder [noting of their varying heights],” said the Parliament-Funkadelic frontman.
Clinton also shared, “It just wasn’t that same kind of [Temptations] cool and we didn’t look like we could be what they call ‘charmed-schooled.’”
