Mariah Carey Says ‘New Music Is On The Horizon’ As Lawsuit Looms

Mariah Carey is out here proving that when she says 'it's time' nothing is stopping her from ringing in the festive vibe and securing that music bag!

The talented singer and diva disclosed her plans to release new music in a recent interview as part of the lead-up to her "Merry Christmas One And All Tour" in the United States. The update comes less than two weeks after Andy Stone and Tory Powers re-opened their legal case against Carey, claiming that she infringed on their version of the song "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

Following her now-viral Yuletide video that signaled the official start of the 2023 holiday season, Carey has wasted no time hitting the promotional circuit to support her upcoming projects, including her "Merry Christmas One And All Tour." In anticipation of the tour's start on November 15, she has been spreading good tidings through various high-profile outlets and interviews.

During one of those appearances, the "Big Energy" singer discussed topics ranging from the origin of her top-selling holiday hit "All I Want for Christmas is You" to the upcoming tour, her cherished holiday memories, and even new music. 

"There is new music on the horizon. I've been working the past three or four weeks on just writing new songs. Yesterday we were in the studio working on something with a choir, working on a new song. So it's exciting," the Grammy Awards winner shared with "Good Morning America" on Monday.

A snippet of the conversation was posted on X, giving fans an opportunity to not only watch but to also express their delight at the news. Like one fan enthusiastically stated, "Who in the World/Universe will not enjoy interviewing the QUEEN OF SONGS, SINGING VOICE, MUSIC, MELISMA, WHISTLE REGISTER & CHRISTMAS!!!!! 💐🌻🌺🌷💐🎤❤️🎁🎄🎤."

A second viewer replied, "Terrific interview. Can't wait for the new music. Untill then, it's tiiiiiiiiiime!!!," while a third quoted, "New music with choir coming! 🥰." A fourth fan exclaimed, "Whenever Mariah Carey has a choir on a song, just know it's gonna be goooooood!," as a fifth similarly chimed in, "NEW MUSIC????!!!! GOD HAS SMILED ON MEEEEEE."

A seventh X user pointed out, "OMG😍😍 The queen @MariahCarey has spoken about new music!!! Recording new songs and she said "something with a choir" , one of my dreams! I'm really excited!! Can't wait for it💚💚." 

"oh s—Mariah Carey is bringing back the choir for the new music that s--- gon be fire," yet another person posted at the same time that this internet citizen claimed, "The prospect that @MariahCarey will be putting out new music has me feeling some kind of way! Oh! Yes my Queen!"

The Lawsuit Against The Music Icon Was Initially Dropped Last Year

As for the lawsuit against her, court docs obtained by The Blast showed that Powers and Stone had essentially re-filed their old case as a fresh claim and were demanding $20 million for damages. The papers read:

The filing further declared that "Carey has, without licensing, palmed off these works with her incredulous origin story, as if those works were her own. Her hubris knowing no bounds, even her co-credited songwriter doesn't believe the story she has spun. This is simply a case of actionable infringement."

In their previous lawsuit, which Stone dropped in November 2022, it was alleged that Carey and her co-writer for the song, Walter Afanasieff, "knowingly, willfully, and intentionally" violated the copyright of the musician's 1989 rendition of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which he had recorded under the name Vince Vance and the Valiants. 

He further asserted that his version received substantial airplay during the 1993 Christmas season and started appearing on the Billboard Music Charts. Stone also mentioned that his attempts to negotiate and reach an agreement with the "Obsessed" hitmaker and her co-defendants in April 2021 were unsuccessful.
