Margot Robbie to Produce Live-Action “Monopoly ”Movie Following “Barbie ”Success

Alongside husband Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, Robbie will co-produce the Hasbro-property-based film under their LuckyChap banner

Following the major box-office success of Barbie, the 33-year-old actress and producer is making a Monopoly movie under her LuckyChap banner, alongside fellow company heads Josey McNamara and Tom Ackerley, Robbie's husband.

Based on the classic board game of the same name, the upcoming movie will be distributed by Lionsgate and also produced by Hasbro Entertainment.

"I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap," Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement on Wednesday, April 10. "They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view."

Fogelson added, "We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster."

Hasbro Entertainment Head of Film Zev Foreman said, "As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities."

Barbie, LuckyChap's most recent release, earned more than $1.4 million at the global box office, cementing its place as the top-grossing movie of 2023.

The Greta Gerwig-directed flick was nominated for eight Academy Awards at last month's ceremony and took home Best Original Song, for the Billie Eilish ballad "What Was I Made For?"

Aside from a Monopoly movie, LuckyChap is also teaming up with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment to release a film adaption of The Sims, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

Loki director Kate Herron is on board the project, and will also co-write the script with Briony Redman, per the outlets. (This isn't the only video game project Herron is working on, as she is also set to direct an episode on the upcoming season 2 of The Last of Us.)

The Sims movie is still in its early days of development, according to THR and Variety, and it's not yet known which studio will land the release. Cast members are also yet to be announced.

Reps for Robbie and Ackerley, 33, didn't respond to PEOPLE when contacted for comment.
