Following the success of Barbie, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr's LuckyChap production company is now teaming up with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment to release a film adaption of the beloved game, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

Loki director Kate Herron is on board to work on the project, and will also co-write the screenplay alongside Briony Redman, per the outlets. This isn't the only video game project Herron is working on, with her also set to direct an episode on the upcoming second season of The Last of Us.

The Sims movie is still in its early days of development, per the outlets, and it's not yet known which studio will land the release. Cast members are also yet to be announced.

Reps for Robbie and Ackerley didn't immediately respond to PEOPLE when contacted for comment.

The Sims is a series of life simulation video games developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. The franchise is one of the best-selling game series of all time, shifting nearly 200 million copies worldwide since its first release in 2000.

The video games are also part of the larger Sim series, started by SimCity in 1989. Over the years, The Sims games have gotten bigger, now featuring settings including vacation and high school releases.

LuckyChap also produced the 2023 movie Saltburn, starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi.

The Sims news comes hot off the heels of Barbie's multiple wins and nominations throughout the 2024 awards season. The comedy, based on the beloved Mattel doll, made over $1.4 billion at the global box office.

Following the film's release, Robbie said she knew it would be a hit. The 33-year-old told Collider, "I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director."

One example she gave in "naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years" was "dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg."

"And I was like, 'And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig,'" Robbie said. "And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!"
