Maren Morris stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (November 7th) for a performance of “The Tree” with her friends Mickey Guyton and Brittney Spencer.

“The Tree” appears on Morris’ latest release, The Bridge, a two-song EP which she explained expresses “a very righteously angry and liberating phase” of her life as she steps away from the toxic “family tree” of country music. Speaking about her complicated relationship with the genre in a Los Angeles Times interview that debuted around the time of the EP’s release, she explained: “I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”

On Fallon, Morris also discussed her upcoming children’s book, her admiration of her friend Taylor Swift, and more. Watch the interview and her performance of “The Tree” below.

Earlier this year, Morris teamed up with Marcus Mumford for a cover of “Look at Us Now (Honeycomb)” that appeared in Daisy Jones & the Six. Revisit Consequence’s 2022 interview with her regarding her third album, Humble Quest, here.

As for Spencer, she released her latest single, “Bigger Than the Song,” this past September. Guyton, meanwhile, recently sang the national anthem at the 2023 World Series, and has been busy with a number of duets. In January, she shared “Home Movies” with Lukas Graham, in July she teamed up with Kane Brown for “Nothing Compares to You,” and just last month she and Michael Bolton dropped a holiday duet, “Christmas Isn’t Christmas.”

The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon resumed taping this past September after a several-month hiatus caused by the WGA strike. On Monday night, the show hosted BTS’ Jung Kook, who performed his song “Standing Next To You” and chowed down on New York pizza for the very first time.
