‘Marco Polo’ Season 2 Trailer: Kublai Khan Took The Wall, But Can He Keep His Power?

Marco Polo, I conscript you into the order of the Mongol Knights,” says Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) teeing off Netflix’s second season of Marco Polo as we see that the famed explorer (Lorenzo Richelmy) has become a trusted part of the Middle Kingdom lord’s 13th Century court. “This foreigner saved my life,” retorts Khan when questioned by another about the decision. In season 2, Khan’s expanding empire makes him vulnerable in his oversee of the throne as we see a challenger arise. But don’t let that stir his bull-headed ego as he proclaims, “It is only I, I, I, I took the wall, I executed my brother, I do what must be done for our empire!” — a macho line reminiscent of David Mamet’s dialogue for Al Capone in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables. Whetting the appetite for any Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fan is the whirling swordplay of that film’s star Michelle Yeoh who plays the Handmaiden in Marco Polo. All 10 episodes of Marco Polo season 2 will start streaming on Friday, July 1 around the world. John Fusco, who wrote the Oscar-nominated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is executive producer and showrunner along with Dan Minahan (Homeland, Game of Thrones), with Patrick Macmanus, Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and Elizabeth Sarnoff as EPs.
