Have people gotten really int0 farming? Why is everyone I know talking about silos?! Well, folks, I dug around—and there's no agricultural revolution. Turns out, all of your friends are obsessed with Silo, a new Apple TV+ drama about a mysterious, post-apocalyptic future. The 10-episode series follows a community of people who, after discovering that the air on Earth is poisonous, are forced to live in a massive silo.

Silo's plot may hit a little too close to home, after the New York City skyline turned orange last month. That said, it could also explain why the series, leading up to its season finale on June 30, hit a new level of popularity. Based on Hugh Howey’s Wool books, the story follows Juliette Nichols (Dune: Part Two's Rebecca Ferguson) as an engineer who keeps a massive silo running for over 10,000 people. The compound was created to keep people safe, but an awful lot of death begins taking place. The sheriff (David Oyelowo) bites the dust after he elects to walk outside, his wife (Rashida Jones) does the same, and the mayor (Geraldine James) is murdered. As the mysteries unravel, the occupants' faith in the silo begins to fall apart as well.

If that sounds intriguing, turn away now, because we're about to dig into the complicated season finale—and its implications for the series moving forward. Apple TV+ may just have a new sci-fi hit on their hands, but the streamer won't answer our questions anytime soon. In the meantime, here are our most burning questions.

So, Is The Air Poisonous or Not?

Seems like it. A big mystery of Silo revolves around the state of the world, and whether or not going outside will actually kill you. Is Silo's government lying to its people? Usually with these types of shows, the answer is "yes, of course." But it seems like the air in Silo's world will actually kill you. Where the government does lie? In its fake video feed of a luscious, unchanged green Earth, which looks like a garden of Eden beckoning people to go outside. The government needs at least one of the 10,000 people inside the silo to clean the live-feed camera, so they try to make them think it's fine outside. Joke's on them, though—it's absolutely not.

Why Does Everyone Care So Much About a Stolen Roll of Tape?!

Early in the series, the powers that be in Silo keep mentioning one thing: stolen heat tape. They keep accusing Juliette of stealing it, but she denies it, even though we know that it was her. Turns out, it's not just a silly grudge between messy roommates. The government sends people outside to clean with subpar heat tape, so that the poisonous air seeps in faster. Why do they want the suits to leak so badly? Well, there's something out there—besides the poisonous air—that they want to keep secret.

How Many Silos Are We Talking About Here?

When Juliette finally leaves the silo to brave the outside world—with her good tape attache—she's travels far enough to see that there are seemingly hundreds of other silos on the planet. Maybe in all those other silos, people are having just as bad of a time as Juliette.

Who Knew About the Other Silos and Who Didn't?

The new Mayor, Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) certainly knew. When Juliette is outside the silo, her display turns off. She notices that the bodies of the former sheriff and his wife have been mysteriously removed. "She knows," he mutters. Holland's right-hand man, Robert Sims (Common), responds, "Knows what?" This identifies to viewers that he may be just another silo resident who has been fooled by the government.

What's Next?

Many characters have learned that their lives are not what they seem. For some, this could mean major upheaval. Of course, there are even more mysteries to explore as we continue the story, but I can safely say that a bunch of silo residents are going to be absolutely livid once the truth gets out. Hopefully, at least, it's the right truth.
