For All Mankind Bosses ‘Optimistic’ About Season 5 Renewal Odds

If For All Mankind co-showrunners Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert have their way, the alt-history space drama may enter a new frontier and go beyond Mars in Season 5 — but first, the Apple TV+ series has to be renewed.

The show, which dropped its Season 4 finale on Jan. 12, has yet to be picked up for another space flight by the streamer.

“We’re optimistic about Season 5, but there’s no official word yet,” Nedivi tells TVLine of FAM’s renewal odds.

Should the series continue, the action will jump forward nine years to life on Mars and the Kuznetsov Station on asteroid Goldilocks in 2012, as the Season 4 ender revealed. And ideally, the timeline will skip ahead a couple more times before For All Mankind’s run comes to an end.

“I think the plan, always, was to try to at least catch up to the present, to go six or seven seasons. That’s been kind of our goal,” Nedivi says, adding that he and Wolpert “feel very fortunate” that the show has had the life that it has in today’s TV climate.

“Being able to go [to the present] in the story is something we’re hoping to do, but being in this situation is incredible, to get to the fourth season,” Nedivi shares. “So we’re hopeful there’ll be more. We’d love to kind of complete the arc we imagined. We’ll see what happens.”

Until then, Friday’s finale set up the drama for an exciting future in a potential fifth season with its final image of a fully-mined asteroid.

“They are investing in Mars and investing in the asteroid, which, if that’s the case, you have to imagine that the impact of that on Mars would be huge, as well,” Nedivi said during a post mortem Q&A. “So for us, what’s always exciting in pushing forward with the show is imagining where we can go. So that means not only with the asteroid and the impact that has on Mars, and possibly going to a colony now that is much bigger than the one you see in Season 4, but even the potential now of going further than Mars. That’s always been in the back of our minds, that roadmap of the show, and the further we can go with it, the further we can take space travel, as well.”
