Manitowoc hosts Ghost Ships Festival, Vintage Shop Hop, Sons Day event and more this week

1. Dive into the Ghost Ships Festival

Learn all about the interesting history of the Great Lakes’ lost ships at the 2024 Ghost Ships Festival.

Exhibits for all ages, presentations from shipwreck hunters, and virtual 3D tours will be available at the at this two-day public event March 1-2 at The Inn on Maritime Bay, 101 Maritime Drive.

Tickets can be purchased online at ghostshipsfestival.com or at the door. The Lake Huron Red Tails presentation at 7 p.m. March 1 is free, sponsored by the WSCNMS and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.

2. Shop the annual Vintage Shop Hop

If you’ve got an eye for antiques, you won’t want to miss the annual Vintage Shop Hop March 1-2.

Taking place across Wisconsin and Illinois, local establishments are participating and will have exclusive deals.

Manitowoc participants include Before N After, Ditto, Dr. Freud’s, Flying Banana, Gritty Lane, Manitowoc Antique Mall and The Wild Iris.

Retro Eighth Coffee & Acai is also participating, encouraging shoppers to stop in for coffee with friends before setting out to look for vintage décor, records and art.

3. Attend Lakeshore Wind Ensemble’s concert

Relax to the sounds of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble as they take on the big stage at 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the Capitol Civic Centre, 913 S. Eighth St.

Aiming to “Honor and Remember” the 40-year history of the band, past band members will be remembered.

The late founding LWE member and local arts contributor Dennis Kosloski will be honored with the Wesley Teply Community Service Award in the Arts. Guest vocalist and daughter of Dennis, Emily Kosloski, will return to the Capitol to accompany the band all the way from Los Angeles.

The Lakeshore Wind Ensemble will also be playing tunes to honor Manitowoc’s Sister City relationship with Kamogawa, Japan.

4. Celebrate National Sons Day at the Franciscan Center

Calling all superhero moms and sidekick sons!

The Franciscan Center is celebrating National Sons Day Saturday March 2 with a pizza party, games, obstacle course, movie showing and more.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superheroes and enter the costume contests.

Admission for a mom and son duo is $30, with additional sons $15 each.

  • Feb. 29 at 6 p.m., Slow & Steady plays at The Fat Seagull (807 Quay St.);

  • March 1 at 8 p.m., 920 Trio plays at Salute to Everyone;

  • March 1 at 4 p.m., The Droors play at PetSkull Brewing Co. (1015 Buffalo St.);

  • March 1 at 7:30 p.m., Whiskey Ditch plays at The Wharf Manitowoc (606 Quay St.);

  • March 1 at 9 p.m., Digger Dave’s (715 Buffalo St.) has Karaoke Night; and

  • March at 2 p.m, Bogsurfers with Joe LaForce play at PetSkull Brewing Co.
