Mandy Moore Teams With ‘This Is Us’ Showrunners for ’90s Popstar’ Drama Based on Her Career

ABC has given a put pilot order to the drama “90s Popstar” from executive producer Mandy Moore.

The project, inspired by Moore’s early career as a singer, centers on a family from small-town Florida who must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight.

“The Bold Type’s” Amanda Lasher will write and executive produce the project, which reteams Moore with “This Is Us” showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who are also on board to executive produce.

Marc Webb is attached to executive produce and direct the project, which hails from 20th Century Fox Television. Adam Londy of Aptaker and Berger’s The Walk-Up Company and Regina Lee of Moore’s Roll With The Punches Productions will also serve as executive producers on the project.

Moore currently stars on NBC’s hit family drama “This Is Us,” which has already been renewed through the 2021-22 season. As a musician, Moore first broke through with 1999’s “So Real” and lead single “Candy.” Last month, she released the lead single “When I Wasn’t Watching” from her upcoming seventh studio album.
