Mandy Moore grew up the daughter of a pilot, so she has a few travel icks and she isn't afraid to share them.

The 39-year-old described herself as a "germaphobe" to The Cut and revealed the one habit some passengers have that she cannot stand.

"Nothing horrifies me more than people fully taking off shoes and socks on the plane. That is just the biggest no-no in my book," Moore said. She admitted that she sometimes takes her shoes off while she's in her seat during a long or international flight.

"But I am always putting my shoes back on to go to the bathroom. None of these shenanigans with people just going to the bathroom in their socks," the This Is Us alum clarified.

Her father Donald retired from American Airlines in 2021 after 42 years as a pilot. She told The Cut that when she and her family traveled with him when she was younger, she had to dress up and maintain a certain "decorum" while flying.

"The way people travel now is so loosey-goosey. It’s pretty crazy to me," she said, adding that passengers who are too casual and unaware of germs while flying make her feel like she's in "the Wild West."

"If you’re sick, wear a mask — and if not, cover your mouth!" Moore exclaimed.

The actress has two sons with her musician husband Taylor Goldsmith and travels with them often. In 2023, Augustus "Gus" Harrison, 2, and Oscar "Ozzie" Bennett, 14 months, saw snow for the first time while on a trip with their parents to Upstate New York in February.

"What a fun impromptu weekend at @inness_ny where Gus got to experience both snow AND bacon for the first time. Poor Ozzie is still stuck on the 🥛 diet. 🥓 ❄️," Moore wrote in a caption on an Instagram post that featured her sons enjoying the wintery weather at the resort in Accord, New York.

In October, Moore reflected on her experience watching her sons enjoy an East Coast winter for the first time and why it inspired her to design a  limited-edition capsule collection with Gymboree in an interview with PEOPLE.

"I had a newborn and a not even 2-year-old, and I think a lot of the inspiration for what this collection became sort of stemmed from our time here and stemmed from getting to experience winter through their eyes, their first real, proper winter because we don't get winter on the West Coast," she said. "Getting to witness Gus' first experience with snow and recording his little footprints on the snow and getting to wear all of the winter accessories and understanding why he needs to layer up when he goes outside. All of that."
