Mandy Moore Says Son Gus, 2, Is ‘Loving’ Being a Big Brother: ‘The Holidays Have New Meaning’ (Exclusive)

This year’s holiday season feels extra special for Mandy Moore.

On Thursday, the This Is Us actress, 39, exclusively opened up to PEOPLE about Christmas as a mom-of-two at the Dr. Death season 2 premiere in Los Angeles.

“He's loving being a big brother and he is loving the holidays,” she shares of her 2-year-old son, August "Gus" Harrison.

“Now, he's aware [of Christmas] in a way that he wasn't until this year, like last year, he was just sort of starting to grasp Christmas trees, but now he understands the concept of Santa and all of that it's so much more exciting," Moore says.

The star, who plays investigative journalist Benita Alexander in Dr. Death, also opened up about her 13-month-old son Oscar "Ozzie" Bennett’s milestones and her excitement for quality time with the pair over Christmas.

"He's about to start walking,” she tells PEOPLE of Ozzie. “He just turned a year. So it's like the holidays take on new meaning. I'm excited for these next couple of weeks just to be home and cozy and enjoy this time of year.”

Moore began shooting season 2 of the true crime drama just six weeks after welcoming her second son, who was born in October 2022.

The Tangled star announced that she and her husband Taylor Goldsmith had welcomed Ozzie into the world with a sweet post on Instagram.

"Ozzie is here!" wrote Moore in the announcement, which featured a carousel of black-and-white photos from the hospital.

"Oscar Bennett Goldsmith arrived a little late but with much aplomb (and an easier/speedier delivery than his big brother, much to the delight of his parents)," she continued in the caption. "Every adage is true: our hearts have doubled in size and the immediacy of the love is astounding. He is beyond words and we are so grateful for our family of four! 💓💓💓💓."

Meanwhile, in October, the singer shared with PEOPLE that she was looking forward to creating new holiday traditions with her family now her boys are older.

"I think we're excited to figure out what those traditions are going to be," she said. "Honestly, [Ozzie] was so tiny last year, and we were here on the East Coast, which was fun in and of itself, to have that new experience.'

"But we're going to move soon, and so I'm excited to settle in and put down roots and figure out what those traditions are going to be," she added.
