Mandy Moore Says She's Gotten "Very Tiny, Like, 81-Cent Checks" As Streaming Residuals For "This Is Us"

As you probably already know, last week members of Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists joined the Writers Guild of America in a strike regarding labor disputes with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

While there are a lot of factors at play for the strike, a big part of it is compensation. In particular, when it comes to streaming. Streaming platforms typically pay actors and writers less residuals than broadcast or cable TV.

Kimiko Glenn, who starred on 44 episodes of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, recently went viral on TikTok when she showed just how little she gets in residual payments.

She showed one of her residual statements, and it was for $27.30

Well today, Mandy Moore spoke out on how little she makes in Hulu streaming residuals for This Is Us — a series she starred in for six seasons on NBC, that was acquired by Hulu after its run.

While on the picket line earlier today, Mandy spoke with the Hollywood Reporter and said she has gotten "very tiny, like, 81-cent checks" for streaming residuals. However, her business manager told her those checks are on occasion as little as a penny.

Mandy went on to say, "The residual issue is a huge issue."

Adding, "We’re in incredibly fortunate positions as working actors having been on shows that found tremendous success in one way or another…but many actors in our position for years before us were able to live off of residuals or at least pay their bills."
