Mandy Moore Posts a Throwback Photo of Herself as an Awkward Kid, & It's Totally Endearing

In case you had any doubts as to whether she’s one of the most adorable humans ever, Mandy Moore just posted a throwback photo of herself as a child — and it’s official, she was precious even during the awkwardness of adolescence. The This Is Us star shared the snapshot of younger years to herself on Instagram Thursday, squeezing in a playful jab at her childhood self’s choice of wardrobe.
Who doesn’t love a good #TBT? Especially when it involves an A-list star like Moore acknowledging that she too went through a few iffy years in her youth, like the rest of us. In the nostalgic pic, Moore smiles into the camera, her eyes nearly obscured by a swath of unruly strawberry blonde bangs. The rest of her hair is pulled back with what appears to be a crushed velvet, pearl-accented headband which complements a black crushed velvet and fuchsia-satin-lined jacket of some sort.

Always a good sport, Moore alluded to her oh-so-serious ensemble in the photo’s caption, joking, “She means business.” Naturally, a few of Moore’s famous friends chimed in. “Clutch move on the different colored braces,” quipped Cupcakes & Cashmere founder Emily Schuman. And, as if Moore’s picture alone wasn’t precious, her A Walk to Remember co-star Shane West commented, “#adorbs.” Ahhh!

It’s possible that Moore’s wave of nostalgia started with West, indirectly at least. Last week, Adam Shankman — West and Moore’s director on the 2001 film — devoted his own #TBT moment to the time they spent shooting the sentimental favorite. “Here’s a little treasure I just found in an old box under my house from #awalktoremember 2001. @theshanewest, MM, and me cozied up on the weekend in Wilmington, NC. How freaking cute are these two,” Shankman captioned an old photo of the trio.

Moore then followed suit, sharing four more photos from the apparent treasure trove of memories Shankman found under his bed. From the pictures, it’s readily apparent that the three enjoyed (and still enjoy) a special bond.
That said, though we’re big fans of any nostalgia related to A Walk to Remember, we’re inclined to say that, as far as #TBT submissions go, we’re pretty partial to young Moore rockin’ her big bangs and multi-colored braces.
