‘Manchester By The Sea’ Named Best Film By National Board Of Review

The National Board of Review has selected Roadside Attractions/Amazon’s Manchester by the Sea as its Best Film, with star Casey Affleck landing Best Actors honors. The film took four awards total including Best Original Screenplay for Kenneth Lonergan and Breakthrough Actor for Lucas Hedges.

Moonlight, which won Best Feature at the Gotham Awards last night, won Best Director today for Barry Jenkins and Best Supporting Actress for Naomie Harris. Amy Adams won Best Actress for Arrival, which also was named to the board’s annual list of of top 10 films of the year. That group also included Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures. La La Land, Moonlight, Patriots Day, Silence, Sully and Hail, Caesar!

Silence was awarded for its Adapted Screenplay, penned by Jay Cocks and Martin Scorsese. Focus Features/Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings was named Best Animated Film. O.J.: Made in America was named Best Documentary.

Winners will be honored at a ceremony January 4 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.

Last year’s NBR winners synced with the Oscars in two places: Brie Larson was named Best Actress for Room, and Amy won Best Documentary.
