A Massachusetts man is thanking his mother after she gave him a Valentine’s Day card that included a $1 million scratch-off ticket!

Matthew Broadley of Tyngsborough won the $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery's "$4,000,000 Jumbo Cash" instant ticket game on Tuesday night, according to officials.

Broadley brought the card with him when he claimed his prize on Wednesday at the lottery headquarters in Dorchester. “Thanks, mom,” Broadley said.

The winning ticket was one of two that the man received from his mom, he told lottery officials.

Broadley scratched his instant tickets at about 11 p.m. local time and realized he had won, he said.

The winning ticket was sold at Lakeview General Store in Tyngsborough, and the store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket, per lottery officials.

Broadley will take home just a bit more as he opted for the one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes).

Last fall, another Massachusetts man took home a lottery prize under unlikely circumstances.

Khalil Soussa claimed a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “15,000,000 Money Maker” instant ticket game after his housekeeper found the forgotten ticket "collecting dust" in a vase for months, per lottery officials.
