A Pennsylvania man suspected of killing his mother during an argument was arrested last week after police claim he jumped from the second floor of an airport parking garage.

On Feb. 14, just before 8 a.m., officers with the Allegheny County Police Department responded to the parking garage at Pittsburgh International Airport, according to a press release. After making a call seeking medical help, 30-year-old Joshua Leyo was found in a stairwell with “serious injuries.”

According to a separate press release from the Altoona Police Department, Leyo had been wanted in Blair County on murder charges in connection with the death of his mother, 61-year-old Maureen Mazenko. On Feb. 14, around 1:45 p.m., officers responded to an Altoona home, where they found Mazenko dead with a stab wound to the neck.

Throughout the investigation, authorities determined that Mazenko lived at the home with her son, Leyo, who was not at the scene and could not be located. Investigators learned that Leyo had been treated at a local hospital the morning prior for a cut to his hand and eventually tracked him to the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Police claimed Leyo was using Mazenko’s bank account and had taken an Uber from Altoona and made purchases in the Pittsburgh area.

“Altoona Police Officers reached out to The Department of Homeland Security and Allegheny County Police Department, who advised that Leyo had jumped from the 2nd floor of the parking garage at the airport and was currently hospitalized at Allegheny General Hospital being treated for serious injuries,” the press release states.

During police questioning, Leyo allegedly confessed to fatally stabbing Mazenko during an argument and also told police she was dead when he left the home, according to Altoona police.
