How A Man Says He Broke Free From His Mom Meddling And Controlling His Life

A man who said his mother controlled everything in his life -- from what he wore to who he dated -- shares how he says he finally broke free.

Reed says he used to be controlled by his mother meddling into his life. When the then 33-year-old appeared on Dr. Phil, he said he believed the only way he would ever have a life of his own was when his mother was dead.

“My mom tries to control everything in my life, from what I wear to who I date,” he told Dr. Phil.

Reed’s mom, Margaret, admitted that she was manipulative and crossed boundaries with her son, but said she did so out of love.

“I pay for Reed’s schooling, car, trips – everything that I felt would help him to become the person that I wanted him to be,” Margaret said. “I refuse to let him fail.”
