He-Man returns... again! Masters of the Universe CG animated series revealed for Netflix

After rebooting She-Ra with the animated She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Netflix is now rebooting He-Man… again! It appears both shows will remain separate, and that presumption is based on the few details that arrived Wednesday to accompany the announcement.

While Netflix partnered with DreamWorks Animation on She-Ra, the streaming company is joining forces with Mattel Television for a CG-animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, with new story lines and character takes.

This isn’t to be confused with Masters of the Universe: Revelation, that animated series from Kevin Smith that Netflix is also working on.

Per the official logline for this other show: “On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe! The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?”

House of Cool (Ferdinand) and CGCG (Star Wars: Resistance), both of which worked on Netflix and DreamWorks’ Trollhunters, will provide the animation. A new poster arrived along with the initial announcement to tease the new design.

Rob David (Masters of the Universe: Revelation) developed this idea for TV and executive produces the new show with Adam Bonnett (Descendants) and Christopher Keenan (Justice League, Batman Beyond). Jeff Matsuda (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Susan Corbin (Voltron) will produce, while Bryan Q. Miller (Arrow, Smallville) serves as story editor.

Mattel also has plans to launch a new He-Man comic series through DC Comics and reboot the He-Man toys.

Noah Centineo of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is also attached to star in a live-action He-Man movie for Sony Pictures.

That’s a lot of He-Man in our future.
