Man Ray's Fashion Legacy Comes to Life at MoMu, Fashion Museum Antwerp

MoMu, Fashion Museum Antwerp, presents a new exhibition exploring the transformative influence of Man Ray on the world of fashion. Through his iconic photographs for renowned couturiers like Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel, as well as fashion magazines including Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair and Vogue, American visual artist revolutionized the portrayal of fashion.

Man Ray's technical brilliance and playful approach bridged the gap between art and fashion, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. His experimental techniques and surrealist elements continue to inspire contemporary fashion designers, particularly those drawn to Surrealism, like Belgian fashion creators.

Titled "Man Ray and Fashion," the showcase intertwines his legendary photography and artwork with interwar fashion silhouettes. It also features the works of contemporary fashion designers and photographers who have been inspired by his legacy. The collection showcases creations by esteemed designers such as Chanel, Maison Lanvin, Madeleine Vionnet, Norine, Yves Saint Laurent, Martin Margiela, Olivier Theyskens and Dries Van Noten.

Co-organized by MoMu and the Réunion des Musées Nationaux Grand Palais, in partnership with the City of Marseille Museums, the exhibition solidifies the connection between art and fashion, creating a captivating dialogue between past and present.
