STORY: In California, five people are dead including three children in an apparent murder-suicide at a church Monday.

Police say a man shot and killed his three children and a fourth person before taking his own life.

A Sacramento County Sheriff’s spokesman said that investigators were trying to establish a motive, but believed the bloodshed stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The shooting erupted at about 5 pm local time inside a house of worship called The Church in Sacramento.

A church employee called the police after he heard shots fired and ran out of the building.

Local television station KTVU cited the County Sheriff saying that the shooting likely unfolded during a supervised visit between the father and the children – who were all under 15 – and that the fourth victim was the adult chaperone.

In a tweet, California Governor Gavin Newsom called it ‘another senseless act of gun violence’ and that it was ‘absolutely devastating’.
