Man Finds Mummified Baby Corpse In His Dead Mother's Freezer
A man says he found the corpse of a baby in a box in his dead mother's freezer. The finding has raised all kinds of questions for him as to what secret his mother was hiding.
Ghastly Discovery
Adam Smith, of Missouri, said he recently opened up the cardboard box, which had been in his mother's freezer for as long as he could remember. For all that time, he had thought it was a wedding cake top, which would make sense.
Baby Found Inside Freezer
But when he cut open the box, he said there was a baby inside, with its skin and hair intact, and a pink fleece blanket.
He told KSDK:
"I pulled [the box] out and … I grabbed this knife and I just cut through the plastic and opened it up. And that’s when I found a frozen baby in there.”
Smith says every time he tried to ask her mom, Barbara, about this, she disregarded his question or said the query was off the table.
Barbara died on July 21, and that's when Smith finally decided to find out what was in that box.
Secrets Being Unearthed
He says that since then, he's found out more about this mother, like the fact that she had had twins -- and one was stillborn.
“I’m finding out my mom wasn’t who I thought she was," Smith said.
'Suspicious Death'
Smith says he immediately called police about the body, which is now being called a "suspicious death."
Smith thinks his mother could be responsible for the baby's death. She's apparently carried the secret to her grave:
“Even as she was on her deathbed, she never told me what was in that box. That’s what makes me think maybe she did something to this baby and didn’t want to tell anyone because she was afraid she would get in trouble.”
