A man was tragically killed outside of the Baltimore Ravens football stadium over the weekend after he attempted to escape a porta potty that had lit up in flames.
The incident happened on Sunday outside of M&T Bank Stadium at approximately 3 p.m., Blair Skinner, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore City Fire Department, told The Baltimore Sun.
After the portable toilets caught fire, the unidentified man was seen running from the blaze — also engulfed in flames himself — by a stadium security guard, Skinner explained to the outlet.
Both the Baltimore City Fire Department and the Baltimore Police Department reported to the scene as two more portable toilets went up in flames.
Unfortunately, it was too late for the man, who had already died from his injuries by the time the first responders arrived, the outlet reports.
At this time, it is not clear what caused the fire or how long the man had been in the porta potty.
An investigation with the Baltimore Police Department is currently underway, Skinner told The Sun.
After successfully putting out the fires, the Baltimore City Fire Department posted about the incident on their Facebook page, along with several photos from the scene.
Some of the images show the firefighters gathered outside of M&T Bank Stadium, while others include the porta potty’s remains in a pile of ashes next to a nearby fence.

“BCFD on scene in the 1100blk of Russell St. where an adult male was seen on fire coming from a Port A Potty. Upon arrival the adult male was pronounced deceased & three Port A Potties engulfed in flames. Cause U/I” the department wrote alongside the photos.
The stadium was not hosting any events that day, as it is currently under a $120 million renovation, expected to be completed by the 2019 football season.
