Man Dies in 'Freak Accident' After Getting Stuck in Cement Mixer Truck

A man has been killed after getting stuck inside cement mixer in the BronxA man has died after getting trapped in a cement mixer truck in New York City.
The fatal accident took place on Monday at 1140 Grinnell Place in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, NBC affiliate WNBC-TV, The New York Daily News and Norwood News reported.
Emergency services responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. local time for help after a worker got “entangled” in the construction vehicle onsite, according to WNBC-TV and Norwood News.
The victim — identified as Francisco Lumbreras by his family, according to New York Daily News — was pronounced dead at the scene, New York City Fire Department (FDNY) officials told WNBC-TV.

"A person somehow got entangled in the machine and died," the FDNY told the outlet.
According to Norwood News, 1140 Grinnell Place is a commercial space occupied by CNB Contracting Corp., which “specializes in trucking, concrete, masonry, excavation, sheet and pipe piling, underpinning, tiebacks, restoration of roads, asphalt milling, paving, and various types of utility work.”
PEOPLE has reached out to the company and FDNY for further comment.
NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) officials told the outlet that "the site was not a construction site and no construction operations were active at the time of the accident."
A preliminary investigation determined the fatal accident happened as Lumbreras was “cleaning a concrete truck,” DOB officials informed Norwood news.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department also confirmed to the outlet that Lumbreras was "prepping the cement truck" when he was killed. The spokesperson declined to confirm whether or not anyone was with him at the time.

Norwood News also reported that the case has now been “referred the case to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for follow-up.”
Lumbreras' son, Frank, described the situation as a "freak accident," telling the NY Daily News that his "father was the hardest-working person in the Bronx."
He added, "[Francisco] was the heart of everything in our family. We don't know what to do now."
