Authorities later recovered a stash of weapons, drugs and explosives in the suspect’s home

A man is in police custody for detonating a teddy bear packed with an explosive in the parking lot of a California business.

The San Bernardino Police Department wrote in a Facebook release Tuesday that officers responded to the location “after a business owner was notified by witnesses that a possible explosive device inside a large Teddy Bear 🧸 detonated at the front of the business.”

“EXPLOSIVE INVESTIGATION... LITERALLY!” they wrote in the release. “Through further investigation, Detectives reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and developed leads, which led to a search warrant.”

After searching the suspect’s residence, authorities discovered over 200 rounds of ammunition, a ghost gun firearm and more than a kilo of methamphetamine “with packaging for sales,” added the police statement.

Other items discovered included illegal fireworks, a ballistic vest and money, along with metal saws and pipes “consistent with explosive devices,” per the release.

All evidence was recovered by authorities and the suspect — who remains unidentified — was arrested on multiple felonies, according to the release.

A woman can then be seen walking to her car at a distance before the teddy bear explodes with smoke billowing in the parking lot. The suspect then drives away.

According to NBC 4, San Bernardino Police Department sergeant Chris Gray said the explosion took place on Sept. 14 after 12:30 p.m. on the 100 block of West Baseline Street.

Gray also identified the suspect as a male and said he was unsure of a motive, telling the outlet, “You just never know what tomorrow brings.”
