Man Accused of Double-Murder in Colorado Springs Dorm Was Roommates with Victim

A man suspected of killing two people Friday in a dorm on the University of Colorado campus in Colorado Springs was roommates with one of the victims, according to police.

Nicholas Jordan, 25, was arrested Monday morning in Colorado Springs on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Samuel Knopp, 24, a student at the university, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, who was not enrolled at the school, according to a statement from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said the victims were found after officers were called around 6 a.m. Friday on a report of a shooting at Crestone House, a dorm located on the campus.

“Investigative efforts continue to indicate this was an isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university," police previously said.

Colorado Springs police said in a statement to PEOPLE that Jordan and Knopp were roommates.

Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet said in a statement shared to the university’s website on Sunday that Knopp "was a senior studying music and a beloved member of the Visual and Performing Arts department. He was an accomplished guitar player and an extremely talented musician.”

She added, “Celie, although she was not a student, will be mourned by our campus community.”

“As we mourn the loss of Samuel Knopp and Celie Montgomery, my hope is that we will come together as a community, support one another and share in our grief,” the chancellor said. “Please remember that you are not alone.”

Further information about the relationship between Montgomery and the others as well as a possible motive had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

Jordan, of Detroit, Mich., was taken into custody without incident Monday in Colorado Springs after members of the police department’s Motor Vehicle Theft Unit spotted him in a vehicle, police said. A warrant for his arrest had been signed on Friday.

Online jail records show Jordan was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Tuesday and was being held on  $1 million bond. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
