Man, 71, stabbed to death by elderly roommate in Midtown Manhattan senior citizens residence

A 71-year-old man was stabbed to death by his elderly roommate during a bloody fight in a Midtown residence for senior citizens, police said Wednesday.

Cops were called to the Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence on W. 57th St. near 10th Ave. about 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of an assault in progress.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim stabbed in the back, cops said. The victim’s 78-year-old roommate was suffering from slash wounds to the hands and was taken into custody for questioning.

A kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.

The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. His name was not immediately released.

Staffers told police that the two men were arguing when their dispute turned violent. Neither man had a criminal record.

The Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence is a senior living facility for people in the performing arts and entertainment industry and people living with HIV and AIDS, according to the company’s website.

The older roommate was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment while in police custody. Charges against him are pending.
