Hello, fellow The Young and the Restless fans, and welcome back to our regular feature where we take something on a soap that doesn’t make sense — and make it make sense. Call it rationalization, call it wishful thinking, call it fanwanking. We’re going to do it! Today, we figure out why Abby wasn’t invited to Ashley’s intervention during the Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 12 episodes.

Too Close for Comfort

Traci (Beth Maitland) was the first to realize something was wrong with her sister. Once she convinced her brothers, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Billy (Jason Thompson) agreed to confront Ashley (Eileen Davidson). Tucker (Trevor St. John) even ended up there as a special guest. Diane (Susan Walters) was there.

So the entire Abbott family was united, and Ashley’s alter Ms. Abbott did her level best to make them mad enough to stop. Ultimately, even Sharon (Sharon Case) got called in. But where was Ashley’s daughter, Abby (Melissa Ordway)? The two aren’t estranged. It’s not like seeing Abby would make Ashley more resistant to being told she has a problem. So where was she?

Both Sides Now

Abby’s full name might as well be: Afterthought. Do you know how she’s almost never included whenever the Newmans get together? (Except when Victor [Eric Braeden] needs to crow about his grandson. Frankly, he cares more about Johnny [Paxton Mishkind], who isn’t even biologically related to him, than Dominic, who actually is.) Why should the Abbotts be any different? All hands on deck rarely includes Abby.

True Blue

But that’s not why Abby was excluded this time. This time, her snub wasn’t because her family forgot she existed, but because they didn’t trust her. First, the Abbotts didn’t trust Abby not to tell her mom what her siblings were planning. And, second, they didn’t trust Abby not to believe whatever lies Ashley dished out to defend her actions.

Abby and her mom are close. But Abby is a bit of a doormat where Ashley is concerned. She believes her mom’s justifications for her behavior, which is the last thing you need at an intervention. Jack, Traci, and Billy didn’t want Ashley to make Abby an ally. Then they’d have to argue with both of them. It was easier just to pretend she doesn’t exist…like usual. Of course, take a glimpse at where Abby DOES appear tomorrow!
