Major A-list star in talks to join 'AGT' in aftermath of Gabrielle Union controversy

TV's top-paid woman is reportedly in the running to join "America's Got Talent" in the aftermath of recent claims about the show's allegedly sexist culture.

"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara, who routinely tops lists of Hollywood's most successful TV actresses, met with producers about the possibility of filling one of the vacancies left by Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, according to The Wrap.

After Union and Hough were fired from the show earlier this year, damning revelations first published in Vulture alleged that Simon Cowell led a toxic environment in which concerns expressed by female stars were readily ignored. "AGT" has since said that a "candid and productive" conversation with Union has motivated producers to find a "positive resolution."

Vergara is not the only person under consideration, the outlet reports, noting that producers are "actively talking to a number of people" about joining the judging panel.

Vergara is a staple of ABC's "Modern Family," which will come to an end in 2020 after more than a decade on the air.

Since the 2006 debut of "AGT," the the judges' panel has always consisted of two men, and all of the male judges have enjoyed much longer stretches on the show than the female ones: Howie Mandel has had the longest run with 10 seasons, while the other long-standing male judges have been David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan, Howard Stern and Cowell himself.

In contrast, the female judges have held their positions for much shorter stints. In addition to Osbourne, past judges have included Heidi Klum, Brandy Norwood, Mel B, Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union. Hough and Union were both let go from their spots after just one season, and Union's subsequent comments sparked backlash and scrutiny against the show.

Union and Hough allegedly received "excessive notes" on their physical appearances, with Hough in particular being subject to "constant criticism on hair, makeup and wardrobe, which impacted morale and led to tensions," Variety reports. Hough has disputed the accounts.
