Drew McIntyre’s journey in WWE has been nothing short of remarkable since his return in 2017. The Scottish powerhouse had a standout year in 2020, capturing the attention of fans worldwide with his dominant performances. From eliminating Brock Lesnar in the Royal Rumble to clinching the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36, McIntyre solidified his status as a top-tier superstar.

Recent months have seen a significant shift in Drew McIntyre’s character. Turning heel during the Survivor Series build-up, McIntyre has been praised for his compelling character development. Moreover, WWE’s creative team has been instrumental in rejuvenating McIntyre’s persona, earning him even more accolades from fans.

Amidst the buzz surrounding McIntyre’s character evolution, a major update on his WWE contract has surfaced. Following an intense segment on RAW involving McIntyre and CM Punk, where Punk revealed his injury, wrestling insider Dave Meltzer shared intriguing insights on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer revealed, “I would say September is a reasonable return (for Punk). Which was interesting, really interesting, because they set up the big angle with Drew McIntyre tonight to be his opponent when he returns, and Drew McIntyre’s not under contract past April. And that has not changed. Which really surprised me.”

Earlier reports indicated that McIntyre had not inked a fresh contract, with his existing agreement set to expiry following WrestleMania 40.

WWE teased a feud between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk despite Drew’s pending contract renewal

On the latest edition of WWE RAW, CM Punk confirmed the speculations surrounding the injury he sustained at the Royal Rumble 2024 last Saturday. He told everyone about his injury, saying he hurt his right triceps during the match. He also stated he will be missing this year’s WrestleMania.

However, he was interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who entered the ring. McIntyre interjected with vindictive sentiments, admitting to praying for Punk’s misfortune. Provoking CM Punk further, McIntyre asserted his aspirations by expressing his desire to find a way to the main event of WrestleMania and live Punk’s dream again. In response, Punk stated he would rehab, and he would be coming for McIntyre first.

This led to both stars brawling, with Drew McIntyre attacking CM Punk on his injured arm. While WWE teased a future feud between Punk and McIntyre, reports indicated that Punk would be sidelined for four to six months. Additionally, McIntyre’s contract is set to expire in April. It will be interesting to see what unfolds. Either McIntyre has already re-signed and kept details under wraps, or he will be leaving WWE.
