Mainstage to perform romantic anthology

May 25—ANDERSON — The "town" is called "Almost" because of some mishaps, and it's filled with folks on a quest for love.

One fateful evening, the northern lights are expected to appear, to the delight of some townspeople.

Like a full moon, the lights can inspire folks to do some crazy things, including fall in love with a total stranger.

That's what happens to Glory, a hiker recovering from a major loss, and Easton "East," a repairman who's yard unexpectedly became a campground for Glory.

"I think I love you," he says.

The two share a conversation in which they learn surprising things about each other and how their stories fit perfectly together.

Audiences will catch a glimpse of this exchange when Almost Maine hits the stage at Mainstage Theatre, May 30 to June 9.

Others are not so lucky. Jimmy, a lonely man desiring a second chance with his lost love is faced with harrowing news.

"I think Jimmy is really relatable to a lot of guys who would kind of like that second chance and when they think they see a chance, they go for it," said Tyler Marx, the actor portraying Jimmy.

Audiences will find him sitting in the back room of a bar when he bumps into Sandrine, his former love, who tells him the news. However, obstacles can become opportunities for redemption.

The play is described as a kind of anthology consisting of nine different stories that intersect in the end.

"It shows a slice of life with ordinary people and situations that we've all been in," said Rhonda Tinch-Mize, who co-directs "Almost Maine," with Sharon Stafford.
