Maia Novi’s ‘Invasive Species’ Announces Off-Broadway Run (EXCLUSIVE)

Maia Novi’s “Invasive Species” has announced an Off-Broadway limited engagement at The Vineyard’s Dimson Theater. The production will reunite the cast and creative team from the dark comedy’s 2023 world premiere at The Tank, where its run was extended to meet demand.

The show, which was written by Novi in response to debates around Yale’s mental health policies where she studied in the drama school, follows an Argentinean actor, who tests the limits of her American dream. The producers describe the play as “an outrageous true story about lying to live, living to lie, and how immigrating to the U.S. might just be the role of a lifetime.”

“Invasive Species” begins previews on May 7 ahead of a May 15 opening night. It will have a limited 8-week visiting engagement, which will play through June 30.

Novi will transfer from the 2023 production as well as her ensemble-mates Raffi Donatich, Sam Gonzalez, Alexandra Maurice, and Julian Sanchez. “Invasive Species” is directed by Pulitzer Prize finalist Michael Breslin, who is best known for “Circle Jerk” and “This American Wife.” Louisa Jacobson, best known for starring on “The Gilded Age,” serves as assistant director.

The producers of “Invasive Species” include Folk Productions, Danielle Perelman, and Arterial Projects. Jeremy O. Harris, the Tony Award-nominated writer of “Slave Play,” is the executive producer through his company with Josh Godfrey, bb2. Additional producers include Amauta Marston-Firmino, associate producers David Tao & Benjamin Nelson, and co-producers Vaughn Feighan, Chase Landow, Tira Harpaz, Brandon Sanchez, and Rachel Weiss.
