Mahindra wants to build and sell Ssangyong models in America

It seems a year doesn't go by that we hear an executive from Mahindra talk about plans of bringingSouth Koreanbrand Ssangyong to the United States. This time, it's Managing Director Pawan Goenka, who told Bloomberg that the automaker is awaiting approval from its board to make an announcement. Details of a new plant in Detroit to build Ssangyong vehicles – separate from Mahindra's plans to build off-road vehicles in the States – will reportedly come on November 20 of this year.

Past those little scraps, we have no details. Will there be a new line of crossovers and SUVs for America, or will Ssangyong stick with models like the Tivoli, the name of which was registered in the United States back in 2014? Or would it be something like the SIV-2, a hybrid crossover that was displayed in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016? We have no idea, but we'll keep you informed just as soon as we hear anything concrete.
