Madrid Metro Passengers Shocked as Rainwater Pours Down Side of Carriage During Storm

Metro passengers in Madrid watched in shock as water cascaded down the side of their train in the early hours of Monday, September 4, as heavy rain swamped the city.

Footage recorded by Ricky Yael Lopez Baez shows water gushing down the side of a Line 5 train near the center of the Spanish capital.

Metro de Madrid said on X early on Monday that traffic was disrupted on Line 5 due to the accumulation of water.

Several other lines were also disrupted, the service said, with problems continuing into the morning.

Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida said on September 3 that he expected rainfall records to be broken during the storm, and asked people to stay home.

Rainfall alerts remained in place for some areas of Spain on Monday, El Pais said, with two deaths confirmed and at least three people missing. Credit: Ricky Yael Lopez Baez via Storyful
