Madonna's Response to Her Latest Lawsuit Is Exactly What We Expected From the Icon

As a performer and a mom of six kids, Madonna has always proven to be quite fearless. Whether it’s making a song too racy for the time, including “Like a Virgin,” or dressing too provocatively, the singer has always been known for her unapologetic behavior. So, when she was recently sued by fans for starting her concerts too late, she didn’t back down from a fight.

The lawsuit, which was filed on Jan. 17 and obtained by CNN, accuses the “Hung Up” singer of false advertising and negligent misrepresentation after her concerts at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last month started after 10:30 pm instead of the advertised time of 8:30 pm. According to the lawsuit, concertgoers, who then left the venue after 1 am, were then “confronted with limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs at that late hour.”

“In addition, many ticketholders who attended concerts on a weeknight had to get up early to go to work and/or take care of their family responsibilities the next day,” the complaint continued.

Since filing the lawsuit, however, Madonna’s management and Live Nation put out a statement sharing their reaction on Jan. 24. “The shows opened in North America at Barclays in Brooklyn as planned, with the exception of a technical issue December 13th during soundcheck,” the joint statement said. “This caused a delay that was well documented in press reports at the time.”

Given the technical issue, neither party admits to the accusations in the lawsuit. “We intend to defend this case vigorously,” the statement continued.

As a reminder, Madonna was sued under similar grounds in 2019 and 2020 during the “Madame X” theater tour, per Us Weekly. Much like in this occurrence, the concertgoers also blamed the singer for starting her show over two hours later than predicted. Both cases were later dismissed in court. The 2020 lawsuit reached an unspecified settlement.

Looks like the Queen of Pop is no stranger to fighting for herself and won’t be backing down anytime soon.
