Pop superstar Madonna has postponed the North American leg of her 40th anniversary Celebration tour due to a bacterial infection that landed her in an intensive care unit in New York last month. The postponed shows include two dates at the Moody Center in Austin on Sept. 21 and 22.

Madonna has not played Austin since a 1985 concert at the Frank Erwin Center on her debut Virgin Tour.

Madonna is "on the road to recovery"

In a statement posted to her official Instagram account on Monday, Madonna thanked fans for their "positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement."

"I'm on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all my blessings in life," she said.

The global music phenom and lifelong gay rights advocate will turn 65 on August 16.

When will Madonna's Celebration tour come to North America?

In the statement on Instagram, Madonna announced plans to reschedule the North American leg and begin the tour in Europe in October. The European tour kicks off with a show at London's O2 Arena on Oct. 14 and winds across the continent for two months before ending at the same venue on Dec. 6.

If you're a globe-trotter, there are still tickets available in Paris, London and (for newly-curious fans of the FX TV show "The Bear") Copenhagen.

No U.S. dates have been announced yet, but concert promoter Live Nation says they will be announced "as soon as possible."

Can I get a refund for Madonna's Celebration tour?

If you managed to score the highly coveted tickets, Live Nation recommends you hang onto them. Current tickets will be valid for the rescheduled shows. Keep in mind that Madonna added that second date in Austin after the first one sold out swiftly.

If you want to get a refund, the standard Ticketmaster policy is in effect. Once a new date is announced, or if new dates aren't announced within 60 days, fans will be able to request refunds.
