Madison Beer Returns to the MySpace Era in ‘Sweet Relief’ Video

The ethos of the MySpace era is alive and well in the music video for Madison Beer‘s latest single “Sweet Relief.” Flashing back to simpler times, the singer and her friends stage an impromptu photoshoot in her bedroom. The group runs through a collection of accessories while snapping pictures on a digital camera with pre-Instagram liberation.
The shoot was planned in preparation for an afternoon at the skatepark with the rest of their crew, including the guy cast as the subject of Beer’s ultra crush affection. In between the glances they exchange, the 24-year-old ties ribbons into her friend’s hair, stocks up on snacks at a convenience store, and ends up fully clothed in a pool. It’s her MySpace Top 8 come alive.

“It’s hard to think about who I was then and how different my life was. I just feel like a completely different person,” Beer recently told Rolling Stone, reflecting on younger versions of herself. “I feel really proud of the person that I am. I feel proud of the girl that I also was. I’ve been able to absorb so many things in the last couple of years and learn from so many things.”
Last month, she released her latest album Silence Between Songs, which includes “Sweet Relief” as well as songs like “Home to Another One” and “Reckless.”
“Those moments in between the noise is when you’re able to reflect,” Beer explained. “I was able to look at things with a better perspective. That’s where these records came from.”
