Madi Diaz Is Back With Another Devastatingly Great Song

Madi Diaz — one of Nashville’s brightest and most brutally honest songwriters — asks a simple question on her new single: “Do you think this could ruin your life? Cause I can see it ruining mine.”
Diaz unravels “Same Risk” over cozy acoustic guitar, while the accompanying video features her serenely sitting in a canoe. The track was co-written with Steph Jones and Charlie Hickey, who is signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ label Saddest Factory.

“Same Risk” is the first taste of Diaz’s new album Weird Faith, out Feb. 9 on Anti-. It’s safe to assume that one of the highlights will be “Don’t Do Me Good,” which features Kacey Musgraves.
“This record is about the beginning of love, and saying every feeling out loud, when I feel it, for better or worse because I can’t help it,” Diaz said in a statement. According to the songwriter, the record also “chronicles a new relationship, but also a new relationship to myself.”
Weird Faith follows 2021’s History of a Feeling, which Diaz spoke about with Rolling Stone in her Artist You Need to Know interview. Diaz has kept quite busy in the time since, opening for Harry Styles and even becoming a member of his touring band.
Diaz will embark on her own trek this fall, kicking off on Thursday at London’s Bush Hall. She’ll then head to the U.S. to support My Morning Jacket on tour, which includes three straight nights at New York’s Beacon Theater beginning Oct. 19.
