“James Gunn is one of those guys that like has a group of people around him at all times taking care of his movies, and they’re just the best of the best,” Merced told us. “They’re so good at what they do and you trust them so much that the communication is uncanny. And I’m just happy to be a part of it. I’m happy that he trusts me.”

About the audition process for the role in the film, Merced said “The tests were extensive” and “The auditions were extensive.” The perk of being in a Gunn film is that now she has the director’s direct phone number “and we just text him. It’s crazy.”

Superman Legacy is about to start production and is set to roll out in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Merced has a tight shooting schedule this year as she also revealed that she has begun shooting the second season of The Last of Us.

“The stars are truly aligning. I had several of my friends that I’ve worked with in this industry for a long time join the cast,” she teased of the second season. “I can’t say who just joined. But he’s amazing. And he’s a future superstar and already a superstar in my eyes.”

Merced also had only good things to say about co-star Kaitlyn Dever, calling her “one of the most talented actors I’ve ever worked with.”

“We’ve had one day of shooting for me as Deena and I gotta say, we kind of ate, I’m not gonna lie,” she said. “I was a huge fan of the second game.nI played it in, like one weekend. And then I wondered, how is this going to translate onto TV.”

She continued, “And Craig Mazin is one of the most brilliant people, actually, I think, a genius. I’m sure if they did the test, they would find out that it’s true. And he’s just has a way of bringing these characters to life that no one could ever just come up with in such a short amount of time. I love him. He’s amazing.”
