Machine Gun Kelly Wants the Lead Role in “Legend of Zelda ”Movie: 'If I Don't Play Link We Have a Problem'

Machine Gun Kelly wants to go to Hyrule.

After Nintendo announced Tuesday that it is developing a live-action movie based on its popular video-game series The Legend of Zelda, Kelly — whose real name is Colson Baker — shared a screengrab of an article to his Instagram Story and said he would like to star in the movie.

"if I don't play Link we have a problem," Kelly, 33, wrote in a caption on the post, referencing the video-game series' protagonist.

Kelly is a known Legend of Zelda fan; he and his fiancée Megan Fox were seen wearing costumes inspired by Link and the series' other protagonist, the titular Princess Zelda, on Halloween night in Los Angeles last year.

The Legend of Zelda, which has released 19 titles since the original release in 1986, will be directed by Wes Ball, who's known for his work on the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The film's announcement came roughly seven months after Nintendo released The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made over $1 billion worldwide and is the second-highest grossing movie of the year in the United States and globally, after Barbie.

Nintendo's legendary game designer and Legend of Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday that the Zelda movie project has been in the works for some time.

"I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films," wrote Miyamoto, 70, who will serve as producer for the movie.

"By producing visual contents of Nintendo IP by itself, Nintendo is creating new opportunities to have people from around the world to access the world of entertainment which Nintendo has built, through different means apart from its dedicated game consoles," Nintendo said in a press release regarding the film's announcement.

The release added, "By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone’s faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible."

The game franchise centers around Link, an elf-like warrior whose various incarnations appear to help Zelda save the kingdom of Hyrule from the games' principal villain, Ganon.

Aside from Ball's announcement as director, Nintendo did not release any more information concerning writers or casting decisions for the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie Tuesday.

It is unclear when the studio plans to release the film.
