Machine Gun Kelly not changing his name to just 'Machine'

MGK will remain MGK.

The artist formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly...is still known as Machine Gun Kelly.

At a recent appearance on the red carpet for the GQ Men of the Year party, the rapper/rocker asked photographers to refer to him simply as "Machine," leading to speculation that he was changing his name.

However, EW has learned that MGK will remain MGK and will not drop the "Gun Kelly" after all.

So why the confusion? Well, about a year ago, comedic duo Chad and JT made a video in which they went to a MGK concert with a giant sign that read, "Change your name." The musician took notice of the sign, saying, that he had "no idea'" what it meant. Chad and JT then explained that they wanted him to change his name so as not to "glorify machine guns."

Was it in seriousness or jest? Maybe both. But Chad and JT posted a TikTok earlier this week of MGK on the GQ red carpet, which they took as proof that their sign had worked. Meanwhile, the actor otherwise known as Colson Baker, seemed to be playing into the narrative on X (formerly Gun Kelly...formerly Twitter).

So, for now at least, all is right in the Machine Gun Kelly-verse.
