MacGruber TV series, Laverne Cox-led comedy among six shows announced for NBC's Peacock
NBC’s streaming service Peacock will be flying into homes this spring, and it has six projects set to debut during its expected April drop. The projects are a mix of comedies and drama from top producers including Norman Lear, Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, and Will Forte.
Forte brought to life special operations agent MacGruber on NBC’s Saturday Night Live and in a feature film, and now fans will be able to follow his latest adventures in a comedy at Peacock. The series, written and executive produced by Forte, will find the titular character (also Forte) released after a decade in prison full of determination to take down the villainous Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth, according to Variety.
“With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber, Vicki, and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil, only to find that evil may be lurking within.” The announcement does not confirm whether Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe would reprise the roles of Vicki and Piper from the 2010 film MacGruber.
The legendary Lear will executive produce Clean Slate, a comedy about a father named Henry (played by George Wallace) who is reintroduced to his son who has returned home after 17 years as a determined, proud, trans woman named Desiree (played by Laverne Cox).
Kaling tackles the topic of geriatric pregnancy in the comedy Expecting, about a 39-year-old music manager who asks her gay best friend to be her sperm donor. It’ll follow Ellie and Jonathan’s adventures in parenting and how it affects their personal and professional lives.
Poehler is behind the Amy Wambach comedy centered on the retired soccer star called Division One. Billed as a coming-of-age story, the series will tell the story of an underdog collegiate women’s soccer team that must decide if, alongside her new coach, they want to take the risk of trying to be great.
