Patricia Brentrup — the mother of Kieran and Macaulay Culkin — has been struggling with undisclosed health issues that have kept her from joining her famous sons at recent events.

Brentrup’s husband of 12 years, Mart Cox, told Page Six that she was unable to attend the unveiling of Macaulay’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December due to medical issues.

“Patty was invited, and they wanted to fly her out, but she’s been having some hard times with her health,” he told the outlet.

Cox, 69, didn’t offer further details about the specifics of Brentrup’s health struggles, but added that he and his wife spent some time with Kieran and his family — which includes wife Jazz Charton, 35, and daughter Kinsey Sioux, 4, and son Wilder Wolf, 2 — for a few months last year.

“Kieran was looking after her and she was going to doctors in the city,” Cox told Page Six. “All the kids have been very helpful, oh for sure. Just from Patty, they have a lot of love in them — she is an incredible woman.”

As he continues on his streak of winning awards for his role as Roman Roy in Succession, Kieran, 41, has been vocal in his praise of his mother.

While accepting his award for best actor in a drama series at the 2024 Golden Globes, the actor thanked “my wonderful mom. Mom, thank you for doing everything you’ve done for us. You’re an amazing woman."

Backstage, he continued to talk about his mom, saying, "I have no idea how my mom did it — she raised [us] in this basically studio apartment and I don't know how she did it," he continued, adding how "amazing" she's been as a mother.

"Obviously [I] wouldn't be here without her," he said of his decision to mention Brentrup, 69, in his speech. "Not just because of the sex she had with my father. For the woman she is. And for having sex with my father."

Kieran also brought up his mother at this year’s Emmy Awards, tearing up when he mentioned her in his acceptance speech for lead actor in a drama, thanking Brentrup for "for giving me life and my childhood, which was great. So thank you for that."

Backstage, Kieran continued to praise his mom — and sneak in a dig at his father, according to Page Six.  “She’s just an absolutely wonderful woman who took on raising seven kids in a studio apartment, by herself,” he said. “There was a guy there — he didn’t do anything.”

Kieran and Macauly have four siblings: Shane, 47, Quinn, 39, Christian, 36, and Rory, 34 — who is also an actor. Their sister Dakota died in 2008.

“None ever gets more love than the other. That’s how their mom raised them,” Cox told Page Six, adding, “although Kieran always thought he was the favorite!”
