Mac Miller's 2011 Song 'Donald Trump' Is Back on the iTunes Chart
Mac Miller has had a great year, releasing a warm, heartfelt album called the Divine Feminine, finding love, and speaking openly about becoming sober and emerging as a stronger, more grounded person. When we spoke to him about his new album, he explained that some fans didn't enjoy or understand his new direction, and wanted him to play old songs, party songs like 2011 release "Donald Trump."
The song, which appeared on the Best Day Ever mixtape and samples Sufjan Stevens' "Vesuvius," was Miller's third officially released single, and uses Donald Trump in the chorus as a signifier of success. "Take over the world when I'm on my Donald Trump shit," Miller raps, which has turned out to be much more true than he could have ever imagined.
Before the events of this election, Miller had already made his dislike of Trump clear back in 2013, leading Trump to call him an "ungrateful dog" on Twitter and threaten to sue him. This year, Miller has doubled down on his criticisms of Trump, saying, “I think he’s just such an egomaniacal, attention-thirsty, psychopathic, power-hungry, delusional waste of skin and bones that he’ll do, say or allow anything if it means he’ll just get one more minute in the limelight.”
Now, Donald Trump is President-elect, and Mac Miller's song has risen back into the iTunes Top 40, currently sitting at No. 37. Are people buying the song to listen to it in celebration?
