M.I.A. Shares New Song “CTRL”

M.I.A. is back with a new song called “CTRL.” It’s available to hear at OHMNI.com. In a message online, M.I.A. wrote, “CTRL! A SONG FOR 2020... This is not a song from M.I.A’s upcoming highly anticipated IIIIIIth LP. It was made for the HERE + NOW, TODAY.”

Along with the song, M.I.A. also shared messages of support for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, whom she’s defended and spoken with in the past. Assange appeared in a London court earlier this week for a U.S. extradition hearing. M.I.A. has previously protested the extradition of Assange to the United States, where he’s charged with conspiring to hack into a Pentagon computer network in 2010.

M.I.A. returned earlier this year with “OHMNI 202091,” her first new song in three years, via her Patreon account. M.I.A.’s most recent album was 2016’s AIM. The documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. came out in 2018. That same year, she shared a new video for “Reload,” which she recorded in 2004 and released for the first time in the documentary. She was named a Member of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in June 2019 for her “services to music.”
