Männerchor to host Oktoberfest on Saturday

Sep. 25—It's time to lift those mugs and toast on Saturday as the Eintracht Männerchor in New Castle ushers in a new month, German-style, with Oktoberfest.

The event, planned for 1 to 10 p.m. in the upstairs hall at its building at 108 Taylor Street, will offer a variety of German music, foods and beverages.

The event is free and open to the public.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m., the SNPJ Button Box group will perform, roaming through the crowd until 4 p.m.

The Alpen Schuplattler dance group of Pittsburgh will be perform from 2 to 2:15 p.m., 3 to 3:15 p.m. and 4 to 4:30 p.m.

New Castle's Eintracht Kinderchor will sing German songs from 4:30 to 4:45, followed by the all-male adult Eintracht Männerchor singing German numbers from 5 to 5:30 p.m.

The Pittsburgh band Mädl Jäger, a group of Lederhosen-clad musicians, will play a variety traditional tunes from Germany, Austria and Slovenia, as well as American classics.

Food available for purchase will include schnitzel dinners, sides of sauerkraut, German potato salad, soft pretzels and hotdogs.

Featured beers will be Penn Brewery Oktoberfest beer and Miller Lite.

Parking in the adjacent lot also is free.
